What I Got Wrong: The Graveyard of the Not-So Traveling Pants II

Even the best-researched packing lists fail sometimes. From cotton sweatpants that refuse to dry to pants that didn’t survive the road, this post shares a real-world packing mistake

This post is part of an ongoing series, “What I got Wrong” short reflections on the small mistakes, unexpected failures, and lessons which are all part of life on the road.

What is it with this family and pants?

This installment, however, is less lighthearted and more tragic. Sad faces everyone.

After just over three weeks of travel, I had to throw away my favorite pair of pants. Not because of a minor tear. Not because of something a needle and thread could fix. Nope. These pants developed catastrophic holes. Right in the… butt….we’ll call it the butt.

Did I mention I loved these pants?

They were linen. Lightweight. Comfortable. Somehow still fashionable. They felt perfect for travel. And I would love to tell you a semi-humorous story about how this was entirely my fault; how, in classic Andrea fashion, I sat on a nail or fell into a bull pen and miraculously only my pants were injured (if you know me, this isn’t wildly implausible).

But no. These pants simply… wore out.

I won’t name the brand, because I’m choosing to believe this was a case of something being loved to death and used in ways it wasn’t entirely designed for. Still, it’s disappointing…to say the least.

It also means I’m on the hunt for new travel pants.

Let’s hope the graveyard will no longer be accepting new arrivals.
